WEST, Marie, J. Was born March 30, 1915 in Goodwater, AL., the last child of 
Johnson and Mattie Hill, departed this life September 15, 2006. She became a 
resident of Dayton, OH in 1934. She received her education in the West Carrollton
 Public Schools. In 1939 she was united in Holy Matrimony with Orren C. West, Sr., 
to this union two sons, Orren C. West, Jr., Mark J. West. Marie joined Phillips Temple 
C.M.E. Church in 1935 and was a faithful member for more than 69 years; she was a 
very supportive member of The Dorcas Circle, Missionary Circle, Senior / Senior 
Templite Choir, Stewardess Board #2, Church Women United of Greater Dayton, 
Pathfinders, The Women Bible Class, The Lay Council, Voter Precinct Judge, Lead 
Servant overseeing the kitchen and past President of the Dennison Ave. Block Club. 
Marie was best known for her Delicious Rolls and Fruit Cakes. She was class "A" 
homemaker and cook. Her wisdom poured out onto many lives touching, nurturing and 
bring forth hope to everyone she met. Marie was preceded in death by her husband 
Orren C. West, Sr. in 1995. She is survived by her sons, Orren C. (Darlene) and Mark 
J. (Gayle) West of Dayton, OH; granddaughters Courtney and Whitney West of Dayton, 
OH; great granddaughter Kennedy Bre'Ann Jones of Dayton, OH and a host of nieces, 
nephews and cousins; special friends Burndette Bankston and Elizabeth Upchurch of 
Dayton, OH. Service will be held at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, 2050 Germantown 
Street on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 11am; family will receive friends one 
hour prior to the funeral. Rev. James E. Washington officiating. Burial Dayton National 
Cemetery. The service is entrusted to Smith Rose Funeral Home.
