PIQUA — Clarice M. Carpenter, 96, of Piqua, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Heartland of Piqua Nursing Facility. She was born Dec. 4, 1920, in West Carrollton, to the late Emmett and Oritha (Shockley) Conover. She married John T. Carpenter in West Carrollton on June 15, 1948, and he preceded her in death June 3, 2012. Survivors include a daughter, Jo (Thomas) Argabright of Hardin; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carpenter was a 1938 graduate of West Carrollton High School and a 1942 graduate of Heidelberg College. She went on to become a school teacher at Conover High School, Middletown High School, and Piqua High School, from which she retired in 1953. She then became the secretary for John T. Carpenter Construction Company for 20 years. Following her time at the family business, she worked as the secretary for McCulloch Insurance Company for 18 years and retired in 1995. She was a member of Greenview United Church of Christ as well as the Eastern Star Piqua Chapter 320. She and her husband enjoyed 35 years of square dancing at local dance clubs and a yearly visit to Fontana Lake, N.C., for dance holidays. A graveside service to honor her life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, at Beechwood Cemetery, Lockington, with the Rev. Larry Grunden officiating.
