ROE, Harry L., Jr. age 87 of Centerville, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2011. Harry graduated from West Carrollton High School in 1942 and Southern Aviation School in Camden, SC in 1943. During his High School years, he lettered in basketball, baseball, and track. He was also a member of the school chorus, class play, and the Piratan Yearbook Committee. Harry was a life long member of the Dayton Buzzin Buzzards Model Airplane Club and a member of the American Modelers Association. Harry proudly served his country as a fighter pilot in the US Air Force for 30 years, where he logged several million flying miles, then later retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He flew 15 different types of military aircraft, as well as control line model airplanes and radio controlled planes. He was a World Class Model Airplane Builder and Flyer, winning over 1000 trophies and awards. He also formulated his own model airplane fuel along with developing a glow plug and acquired patents for both. Harry enjoyed sharing stories of his flying adventures during WWII, and collecting all things aircraft related. He taught himself microencapsulation and worked at NCRs Research and Development Division, and later went to work for Emerson Electric and World Engines. Preceded in death by his son, baby Roe; parents, Harry L. Roe, Sr. and Helen (nee Gleckler); siblings, David (Marjory) Roe, Dorothy (John) Case, Gloria (Don) Morter and Carol (William) Robinson. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Hazel Marie (nee Raulerson); children, Ronald L. Roe, Sr. (Cynthia) of Port Charlotte, FL, Gregory D. Roe of Centerville, OH, Merry M. Roe (Mark Moser) of Beavercreek, OH and Terry G. Roe (Carolyn) of Brookville, OH; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and close friends. Family will greet friends on Friday, September 23, 2011 from 6:00-8:00PM at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 81 N. Main St., Centerville, OH. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00AM at the funeral home with Rev. Vach Spidel officiating. Burial to follow in Glen Haven Memorial Garden, New Carlisle, OH.
