CHAMBERS, Dolores (Rutherford) known to many as Dee, was born May 21, 1 925 and died peacefully October 26, 2011 in St. Augustine, Florida. She was born in Dayton, Ohio where she lived until 1975. She grew up poor in The Depression and began work as live in help at the age of 13. She graduated from West Carrollton High School in three years and attended the University of Dayton as part of the first class ever to accept women. Her work career in Dayton included owning several successful small restaurants, managing several large restaurants such as Pappy's Kitchen Club and The Gypsy Gardens, and waiting on people in so many ways and places. In 1975 she and her husband Jack, and their daughter Cindee, moved from Randolph Township to Hudson Florida. In 1985, after her husband passed away, she moved to St. Augustine for the last 26 years of her life. She was one of the greatest waitresses ever, as her many loyal customers will well remember. She retired at the age of 75. She was born to Harvey and Ruth Rutherford of Dayton/Greenville and had a sister Eileen Dills and brothers Joe, Jack and George who have already gone on to Heaven. Her husband of many years, Jack Chambers, died in 1983. Her daughter and best friend is Cindee Alkhoury, a Northmont graduate and a local business woman in Crescent Beach, Florida. Dolores was actively engaged in helping raise Cindee and Sam's children, Sarah and John Alkhoury. Both are now attending college. Both were very close to their grandmother and were with her in her final days. She is also survived by her son John Chambers of Springboro, a lawyer with Coolidge Wall who has been serving as a part-time caregiver, and his children, enifer Chambers Young of Ann Arbor (her other favorite granddaughter - also with her in her final days) and Ryan of Dayton, and four great-grandchildren, Kennedy Chambers of Dayton, and Anderson Young, Jack Young and Karalyn Young of Ann Arbor. A diminutive woman of seemingly boundless energy, she was an inspiration to many and a helping hand to those in need. God did some fine work when he sent her to us. Now she is again back with God and her loved ones there. Heaven's gain is our loss. A Celebration of Life service will be Monday 12:30 pm, October 31, 2011 at the Anderson Funeral Home 40 N. Main St. Springboro. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am until time of service. Burial will be at the Glen Haven Cemetery in New Carlisle, Ohio. Memorial Contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Dayton. Condolences may be made to the family at www.anderson-fh.com. Published in Dayton Daily News on October 28, 2011 1942
