ROOT, Richard Lee 83, passed away Thursday afternoon at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, Florida. Born to German immigrants in Dayton, Ohio, Richard was a hardworking, intelligent student who worked his way through Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He was then drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Richard enjoyed a long career as a layout designer in electrical engineering for Frigidaire in Dayton, Ohio. After retiring from Frigidaire, he enjoyed a fruitful career as a real estate broker in Vero Beach. He obtained a private pilot license and loved flying his Piper Saratoga airplane. Richard's favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Root; his sons, Rick L. Root, DMD of Vero Beach and Kent D. Root of Boca Raton; his daughter-in-law Betsy Root; and his grandchildren, Megan Root and Kent Douglas Root. There will be a private, out of town family service.
