HAWKINS, Wilbur (Bill) R. age 74, of Columbus, OH went home to be with God on Saturday February 14, 2009 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Myrrha Hawkins-Satow and Mr. Clinton Satow in Bexley (Columbus), Ohio following a brave fight with lung cancer and lymphoma. Bill was born in Middletown, OH on anuary 21, 1935 to Paul Hawkins and Eliza Jane (nee Lewis). He was a graduate of West Carrollton High School and The Ohio State University, where he majored in English Literature and the Classics. Bill spent his young adulthood as a social worker with the Ohio Youth Commission and the City of Kettering. Later in life he had his own jewelry business where he specialized in making and selling silver and southwest style jewlery. Most recently he was a resident of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina and Columbus, Ohio. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hawkins and step-father, Delbert Young. He is survived by a loving family, including his mother, Jane Young, of West Carrollton, sister Vickie Smith, of West Carrollton, his daughters Cassandra Engber of Centerville, Cynthia Paule of Mexico, Dr. Myrrha Satow of Columbus, Rebecca Hawkins of Wisconsin, and Anne Hawkins of Massachusetts, as well as grandchildren Christopher, Emily, Joshua and Alexandria Pammer, Jacob Satow, Angelina and Mateo Hawkins-Paule, Corinne and Melanie Engber, and great-grandchild, Jackson Pammer, and numerous close friends including Dean Ellis of South Dakota. At Mr. Hawkins' request, a family-only memorial service was held at the home of Dr. Myrrha Satow, with Pastor Tim Iseringhausen of Christ Lutheran Church in Bexley officiating. Cremation will be handled by Rodmon Funeral Home of Columbus. Mr. Hawkins' ashes will be scattered by his family in Greece. The Bill Hawkins Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship Fund has been established in his name at The Ohio State University for persons studying English Literature and the Greek and Latin Classics.
