SHOCKLEY, Charles D. age 70, of Vandalia, passed away on Thursday July 7, 2011. He was born on September 17, 1940 in Jefferson City, TN, to the late Arthur Shockley and Naomi Shockley (Carter). In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his brother, Burl Shockley. Charlie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Shockley; three children, Norman (Angie) Shockley, Greg Shockley and Teresa Shockley; three grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha and Morgan; three brothers, Robert, Gary and Dennis Shockley; two sisters, Doris Angel and Judy Hays; and many other family members and good friends. Charlie served as an M.P. in the United States Army. He worked for Globe Motors Industries as a machinist prior to owning Brown's Lawn Service Inc. Over his many years of work Charlie acquired a great appreciation for those he served in his community and it was through his work that he was given the nickname of "Charlie Brown". Charlie was a proud small business owner who followed in the footsteps of his parents, who owned Moraine Pottery Shop in Moraine, OH. He was a driving force behind the Greater Dayton Apartment Association. Charlie was a loving and devoted family man and friend. The family would like to extend a special Thank you to the staff at Good Samaritan Hospital, for the exceptional care given to Charlie. A visitation will be held on Monday July 11, 2011 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 12, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery.
