PRUGH, Terry Lee, 62, of Tampa, Fla., peacefully passed away Thursday, December 7, 2006. He was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, and moved permanently to Florida in 1980. Terry was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Leroy and Juanita Prugh; by his parents L. J. "Wick" and Ethel Prugh; and his beloved brother, Gary Prugh. All three were killed in the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire May 28, 1977. He was also predeceased by his beloved mother-in-law, Mary L. Sopkin. Terry graduated from West Carrollton Senior High School, and he attended Sinclair Hills Community College and Hillsborough Community College. Terry was inducted in Phi ThetaKappa. He joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged as a Yeoman 2nd class. Terry graduated from the Dayton Police Academy with his brother Gary in 1967. They were a three generation law enforcement family, which included their grandmother, Juanita, and their father, "Wick." Terry served a total of 14 years with the Dayton Police Department, and then four years with the Largo Police Department. In 1983, Terry left law enforcement for private business. Since 2003, Terry has worked as the business manager at the Mendez Foundation, where he embraced their mission of preventing drug abuse and violence among children. Terry was an avid sports fan and competitor as a bowler, golfer, tennis and card player, but his greatest love was his family. He celebrated getting his first hole-in-one on July 29, 2006. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Sara Sopkin Prugb; his son, Brian; his beloved brother, Timothy L. Prugh (Marcia), of Dayton, Fla.; his loving in-laws, father-in-law, Sy Sopkin; sister-in-law, Mary Sopkin Dressler (Gene); and brother-in-law, James Seymour Sopkin (Mary), all of Tampa; beloved nieces and nephew, Charity Sopkin Plath, Kristin Sopkin, Brittany Davis (Shane), Tracey Prugh, and Jennifer Sarah Broecker (Terry), and Stephen Edward Dressler of Tampa (Dianne Triplett); and great-nephews James Christopher (JC) Plath and Brayden Davis. He is also survived by a large extended family, and numerous friends, especially Dick and Bebe Gholston, John Custalow and Roxie Buehl, Tony and Cindy Coney, the Northdale Men"s Golf Association, his Friday morning and Sunday morning golf groups; and his wonderful and loving Mendez family. Per Terry's wishes, there will be a celebration of his life at a graveside service at New Palmetto Cemetery at 11 a.m., Saturday morning, December 9, 2006, with Pastor Heinz, retired, officiating. Terry will be honored by bagpiper Lawrence A. Jacobs, Esq., and a military honor guard. The home going celebration will continue when the family receives friends and family from 2-4 p.m. at the home of Becky and Gene Dressler, 1927 Curry Road, Lutz, Fla.
