Janice Kay Samshal, age 70 of Miamisburg Ohio passed away Monday March 21, 2016 at Miami Valley Hospital. Jan was born September 13, 1945 to Martin and Elta Samshal. She was one of the first female firefighters in the Dayton area and worked as a volunteer firefighter in Madison Township. Jan was very active in the Dayton deaf community for decades. She taught sign language at Sinclair and Montgomery County Courts, and interpreted regularly on WTDN. Jan was preceded in death by her mother, father and nephew (Rick Roberts). She is survived by daughters Katherine (Kap) Hopkins and Dawn (Jerry Dean) Schwartz, grandchildren Jake Shaw and McKenna Schwartz, brother Wallace (Wanda) Samshal, sister Nancy Roberts Baker, nieces Tonja Addison, Lori Witt (and family) and Leslie Fowler (and family), nephew Scott Samshal, great niece Nancy (Kevin) Epperson and her children Gavin and Trevor, great nephew Ryan (Mandy) Addison and his children Ava and Gabe. She is also survived by her grand puppies Harper and Macy. Jan worked at Goodwill with bosses and good friends Kevin and Diana Leonard, and other wonderful co-workers. She loved teaching computer skills to her adult developmentally disabled students, and said they made her smile every day she was with them. "Bubba", as she was referred to as by her grandchildren and family, was a joy to everyone she came in contact with.
