Robert Dalton, 62 DAYTON, Ohio / KENNEBUNK -- Robert Dalton, 62, passed away peacefully in Kennebunk on March 19, 2010, surrounded by his wife of 36 years, Claudia, and two sons Christopher and Matthew. Robert, who grew up in Dayton, Ohio, was an only child, the son of Francis and Mary Dalton. He understood the value of relationships, hard work and determination. Robert received a full athletic scholarship to attend the University of Ohio where he graduated with a degree in Quantitative Decision Making (Mathematics). He met his wife Claudia in Columbus, Ohio where they were married and lived for several years before residing in Lake Havasu, Ariz., McHenry, Ill., and finally settling in Kennebunk. Roberts's professional career began as an engineer at Jeffery Mining Machinery and Baxter Healthcare. It was from these positions he grasped the emerging role and value of technology within our changing lifestyles. Robert then was Vice President of Product Development for Shape, Inc. where he developed a fascination for Japanese /Oriental culture. After several years as VP for Shape, Robert turned to academia, working as a consultant on technology matters for the University of Maine and finally his final position as Director of the Office for Research Partnerships and Commercialization and held several positions on the state and federal levels. He was the Director of the office at UNH, working within the R&D faculty realm, the State Director for the EPSCOR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) program. He was also the executive director of the NHIRC (New Hampshire Industrial Research Center) program where he was responsible for the development and protection of technology on the university level and working with small businesses to maintain and create as many positions as possible. His recent professional accolades were: 2007 induction into the Maine Manufacturing Association's Hall of Fame, State Director of NH EpSCoR, and a member of the Nation Science Foundation board. He enjoyed sports, especially a competitive game of golf and looked forward to his annual trips to Cancun with his wife and family. There was no greater joy than sharing a good bottle of wine with friends, a savory cigar, and a great meal of sushi. He approached his loves with the same passion as his work. He will be greatly missed. There are no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Martha's Church, Route One, Kennebunk.
