Denver Willis (Dee) Brown III, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009, at Englewood Community Hospital, Englewood, Florida. Born February 22, 1969, in West Carrollton, Ohio, he is the son of Sue Ann Curtis Brown of Morehead, Kentucky, and the late Denver Willis Brown, Jr., (Coach Denny). In addition to his mother, Dee is survived by his sister, Sheryl Brown; nephews, Jake Carter, Clay Carter and Matthew Reynolds; and special cousin, Sandy Curtis. In 1987, Dee graduated with honors from West Carrollton High School, where he was president of the student body. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1992 with a degree in Journalism. He encountered many better paying jobs along his path, but true to his heart was covering and writing for “the small-town” publications, including sports writer and editor of The Morehead News and Grayson Journal Enquirer. Denver was a loving and caring son, brother, and uncle who enjoyed living life to the fullest and incorporated sports into “everyday life.” Dee enjoyed sports of any kind, especially football, basketball, tennis, and fishing! He couldn’t wait to get his work done to head out to the lake at the end of a hard day. He loved watching sporting events, especially if they included his nephews. He was the proudest uncle anyone has ever known. He loved those boys as if they were his own. Some of the most recent fun included Sunday afternoon football games at MSU with “the Barhorst Clan,” and any neighborhood kid who wanted to play. Denver loved to “road trip” to Dayton, Ohio, ballgames and travel on many Brown family adventures. Things were always exciting! He got to fulfill his lifelong dream of moving to South Florida and first-mating on a deep sea fishing boat. He passed on his love of Florida and the ocean to his nephews, and Denver’s family makes it a second home. His last day was spent exactly the way he loved—out on the ocean all day—watching a beautiful sunset off the boat deck over the ocean. Words cannot express how much Dee is loved and will be missed. See you at the game! Denver was a member of the Farmers Christian Church and Englewood Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bill Teegarden, Rev. Mark Caldwell, and Rev. Tony Caudill officiating. Pallbearers will be D. J. Caudill, Eric Caudill, Sam Cross, Ken Carter, Nic Angerer, and Eric Angerer. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, KY 1987
