BIRDEN, Ruby (Libby) Elizabeth (Sittler) 85, Born January 19, 1921 in Wabash Co., Indiana. Died May 30, 2006 in Lebanon, Warren Co., OH. Parents: Larsh J. Sittler and Hazel Mamie (Foster) Sittler. She is survived by her husband of 63 years John H. Birden, daughter Gail L, Birden, son and daughter-in-law Larsh A. Birden and Cindy Birden, daughter Leslie A. (Birden) Bailey and granddaughter Emma Ruth Bailey, and daughter and son-in-law Lisa M. (Birden) Garland and Robert W. Garland and grandsons Robert N. Garland and William E. Garland. She is also survived by sisters Mary Lou Caldwell and Joann Hill, both of Indiana, 20 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Larsh and Hazel Sittler, sisters Clair Hessel, Lucille Forbes, and infant sister Abigail. She taught 14 years in the West Carrollton school system and for 6 years in a private kindergarten. She attended Indiana Central (aka University of Indianapolis) where she met and later married her husband John and moved to Ohio. She completed her bachelors degree at Miami University and later returned to earn her Masters in Education. She was active in the American Field Service foreign exchange student program. She loved travel; crisscrossing the United States after etirement with her husband in an Airstream trailer and joining one of the first Airstream-organized trips to China. For many years they were members of a local Good Sam travel club and the local Airstream travel club. She indulged her passion for knitting; sharing her knowledge, skill, and experience with daughters and friends through gifts, insightful advice, and gentle patience. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of West Carrollton, OH. She is lovingly remembered by family and friends as a woman of quiet dignity having a gentle, patient spirit who touched the lives of many, especially children she taught, with faithful goodness. A memorial service will be held Saturday June 10th, 1:00 at the Memorial United Methodist Church of West Carrollton. Arrangements by Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon.
