BLAKE, Cynthia Ruth of Kettering, Ohio entered eternal life on September 24, 2010 at Hospice of Dayton. Cindy was born on August 25, 1959 in Wheeling, WV to Carol Donley Blake and Robert L. Blake, Jr. Surviving members of her family are: her mother, Carol Blake of Oxford, OH; sisters, Lynette Blake of Milford, OH, and Mariann Blake Reinke (Keith) of Bowling Green and children Ben, Brigitte and Blake, and brother, Bob Blake (Lori) of Linwood, NJ, and children Victoria and Elizabeth as well as many loving family, teachers, students and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Bob Blake, of Oxford Ohio. Cindy grew up in Oxford, OH and graduated from Talawanda High School in 1978. She was an active member of the Oxford United Methodist Church and sang in the youth, high school and adult choirs. Cindy graduated from Mimi University with a Bachelor of Education in 1982 and a Master of Education in 1988. After completing her degree she completed more than 30 additional hours. She held certification in Elementary Grade 1-8, Reading K-12, Reading Supervision and Supervision. Cindy began teaching in the West Carrolton School District in 1986. Miss Blake taught at C.F. Holliday Elementary School as Chapter 1/Title 1, first-grade teacher and began this school year (her 25th year at C.C. Holiday) and last as a Math Intervention Specialist, grades 1and 2. Miss Blake was recognized by the Ohio Department of Education for Significant Contributions to Professional Development in Literacy and Exceptional Service to Ohio's Teachers and children in 2003-04. She also received the Education Recognition Award from middle school students who recognized past teachers with great influence. Miss Blake wanted to pass on her passion for reading to her students and their families and was instrument in a reading program that encourages and teaches parents how to help their children become better readers. She supported students, family and staff in advancing reading success. As a former principal said, "Her students always make excellent progress in attaining the reading skill needed for success.. She used her knowledge of the science of reading to mentor many beginning reading teachers." Cindy was president of the Miami University Dayton Alumni chapter for over 10 years and coordinated district Battle of the Businesses raising funds for Special Olympics. Family and fiends may gather on Thursday, September 30th from 5:30 - 8:00 pm at Smith Ogle Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike Oxford, Ohio. Visitation will also be held at the Oxford United Methodist Church, 14 N. Poplar St. Oxford, Ohio, on Friday October 1st from 11:00 - 12:00 noon. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery.
