Daniel O. GERHARD(1951 - 2018) GERHARD, Daniel O. Age 66, passed away Tuesday,February 13, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. and RoseAnne (Leik) Gerhard. He is survived by the loves of his life, his wife Nancy (Skelton); two daughters, Lindsey Waldron (Mike) and Lauren Gerhard; three grandchildren, Carson, Cameron and Callie. Dan is also survived by a brother, William Gerhard and three sisters, Marie Zerkel (Ned), Linda Miller (Norm) and Therese Frick; brother-in-law Bill Skelton and longtime close friend, Dick Skelton. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and was blessed throughout his life with many longstanding friendships. Dan graduated from Chaminade High School in 1970; Bachelor's Degree from Ohio State University and Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from the University of Dayton. To say that Dan was involved with and loved basketball would be an understatement: He was Player of the Year in Ohio, high school, 1970 when Chaminade won the State title with a 27-0 record. That year also witnessed one of the most competitive high school games played in Dayton history, Roth versus Chaminade played to a full house at UD Arena. Dan shot and made the last second shot that propelled Chaminade to victory. He was awarded a scholarship and play four years at The Ohio State University where he was selected to be a member of the Big Ten Good Will Basketball Tour to Australia. Dan was also "Coach Gerhard" at West Carrollton High School. A testament to the influence Dan had on young men and women, he was honored as both Teacher of the Year and Ohio District 15 Coach of the Year. He was inducted to both the Chaminade Hall of Fame as a player and the West Carrollton Hall of Fame as a Coach. In addition, he was awarded the prestigious Kelly-Donoher Award for Integrity as a sportsperson. To say that Dan was loved and respected by many is an understatement. He always entertained by telling a "story" about this or that experience. When playing and coaching, he was a tremendous competitor but balanced that with being an ambassador of sportsmanship. Dan will be missed by many especially his family and close friends. He so loved and enjoyed his grandchildren. Even though gone from this world, Dan will live on through his family and forever rest in peace.
