Dr. Sue Anne Heckler, age 77, of Beavercreek passed away Friday, November 17, 2017, at Hospice of Dayton. She was born July 1, 1940 in Bowling Green, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. and Lois Johnson of Napoleon, Ohio. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Tom Heckler, who also grew up with her in Napoleon and married shortly after they both graduated from Bowling Green State University, in 1962. She is also survived by her sister and brother in law, Shirley (Johnson) and Robert Morand and their two children (Sara and Kevin) and their families of Loveland; Daughter and son in law, Kim (Heckler) and Bob Grant and their children, Jordan and Braden of Beavercreek; Son and daughter in law, John and Lisa (Ferguson) Heckler and their two children, Ben and Drew; of Mason; Son and daughter in law, Matthew and Christie (Noggle) Heckler and their four children, Emerson, Danielle, Hollis and Nicholas of Mooresville, North Carolina; and Son and daughter in law ,Mark and Jennifer (Foley) Heckler and their three children, Allison, Tyler and Kaitlyn also of Mason. In addition, she is survived by her brothers in law, John and Shannon Heckler of Ennis, Montana and Jan and Pam Heckler of Toledo, OH along with countless other relatives in Ohio and on the east and west coasts. Sue loved reading, doing jigsaw puzzles; attending her children and grandchildren's events and anything related to family. She described herself as a lifelong learner earning her undergraduate degree at BGSU along with two Master's degrees – Education in English in 1980 and Library Science in 1981 from Wright State University. She secured her PhD from Miami of Ohio in 1998 in Educational Leadership with a special focus on Gifted Student Programming. Sue was an avid community volunteer and received many awards, including the Outstanding Alumni Award from Wright State for instituting several gifted programs and study projects. She was the National Parent and Community Division Chair for the Gifted and won recognition from the Consortium of Ohio Coordinators for Gifted. She worked in several local school districts in the field of gifted education including Clark County Schools, West Carrollton and finished her career in the Beavercreek City School district. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at St. Luke Catholic Church, 1440 N. Fairfield Road, Beavercreek. Interment will follow in Beaver Cemetery. The family will receive at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017.
