HOUCK, Nelson J. age 76 of West Carrollton passed away Sunday August 7, 2011 at Lincoln Park Manor. He was born May 10, 1932 in Marion Twp. (Columbus), OH. the son of Albert and Norma Houck. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Alvin R. Houck. He was a graduate of Hamilton Twp. High School. He attended Capital University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rio Grand College in 1955. He received a Bachelor of Divinity (1958) and a Master of Theology (1961) degree from Southern Baptist Theology Seminary. After a brief period as a pastor in Cincinnati he was employed as a School Guidance Counselor in 1963. He attended Miami University and Wright State University to receive his teaching and pupil personnel certification. He was employed as a school guidence counselor at West Carrollton Junior High School retiring in 1987. He was for many years the Jr. High representative on the Board of the West Carrollton Education Recognition Association and also for many years the advisor to the National Junior Honor Society. For over 25 years he was a registered Track and Field official. He established the Nelson J. and Alvin R. Houck Scholarship fund for persons in track and field, particularly those interested in becoming officials. He was a frequent traveler to Europe with his good friend Brad Foland traveling nearly 30 times. Nelson is survived by 2 nieces Linda Sue and Robert Smitley and Patricia and Gene Bennett both of Kettering, 2 nephews Paul and Joanna Houck of Mooresville, IN. and Bob and Kim Houck of Charleston, W.V., 12 great nieces and nephews and 8 great-great nieces and nephews and cousin Sandra Bane. Funeral services will be Friday August 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from the SANNER FUNERAL HOME, 800 So. Alex Rd., West Carrollton. Rev. Dr. Robert Smitley will be officiating. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Obetz Cemetery in Obetz, OH.. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
