Lucille Recher of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on the evening of Friday, December 2, 2011, at the age of 90. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1921, into the loving and talented family of Thomas and Lucille Draper. F. Lucille Recher, Lucy", spent her early years as a city girl there. Shortly after graduating from the Harris Teacher's College, with an emphasis on math and science, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she was employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as an electrical engineer; she met her future husband, Walter E Recher Jr. after changing jobs to work at Monsanto Laboratory - "Mound Lab" - for the Atomic Energy Commission. She and Walter met on the company golf course, where they both proved to be talented golfers. Lucille had grown up playing golf, and had played in a number of tournaments as a young woman. Lucy and Walter lived many happy years together until his death in 1994. Throughout her life in West Carrollton, Ohio, she taught mathematics at the local public school for many years, while Walter remained at Mound Lab as a chemical engineer. They were active at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellerton, Ohio, where Walter had grown up. She and Walter also became very adept ballroom dancers and competed in a number of dance contests through the years. After Walter passed away, she moved to Vero Beach, Florida until a major hurricane there prompted her move to Charlottesville in 2004. She is survived by her two daughters, Raven (Debbie) Hunter of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Cindy Corrigan of Denver, Colorado; their husbands, Peter H Hunter and Kevin Corrigan; her wonderful grandchildren, Corin Hunter Brena, Blake Hunter, Drew Corrigan and Tyler Corrigan; her three great-grandchildren, Zidane Brena, Blake, Gregory Brena, and Boden Hunter; a number of nieces and nephews, most notably Lynn Draper Stevenson, oldest daughter of Lucy's oldeser brother, Thomas Draper Jr.; nd many good friends, particularly Karen Schmidt and Ann Carlton of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where she was a beloved member. Lucille also leaves a number of special friends in Ohio, particularly John and Martha Strahan of Columbus, Ohio, Bob and Marilyn Beeson and Wanda and Gordon Vaught. Lucy had recently moved into The olonnades, and the family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff and residents of The Colonnades for their loving kindness. Also greatly appreciated are the nurses, doctors and staff of Martha Jefferson Hospital, where she spent her last few days - they were wonderfully caring and thoughtful - and her family doctor, Greg Gelburd and his wonderful staff; and her helpers from the Home Instead, particularly Tara. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at St Mark Lutheran Church on Alderman and Ivy in Charlottesville with Pastor Sandy Wisco presiding. Following the service will be a wake/reception and a visitation with the family in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Mark Lutheran Church in Lucille's name.
