COWLEY-WHARTON, Gladys (nee Shade Stebel) daughter of Oliver and Goldie Shade was born July 21, 1913 and passed away peacefully on March 21, 2010 at the Maria Joseph Center. Gladys was preceded in death by husbands Charles Stebel, Jerry Cowley, and Robert Wharton, son-in-law Don Jacobson, grandson Johnny Stebel, great- grandson Anthony Thatcher, brothers Carl Shade and Roy Shade, and sister Luella Shade. Gladys is survived by daughters Kathy (Jerry) Malone and Judith (John) Kronenberger, sons John (Marie) Stebel and Charles (Colleen) Stebel, and sister Viola Davis as well as nieces and nephews. She leaves fourteen grandchildren- Judi (Don) Mac Leod, Jeffrey (Joyce) Jacobson, Jennifer (David) Schaefer, Major James (Christina) Jacobson, Catherine (Kent) Roseberry, Sarah Kronenberger, Anne (James) Kolaczkowski, Mary (James) Thatcher, David Kronenberger, Joseph Kronenberger, Brock (Brittany) Stebel, Rebecca (Brian) De Paulitte, Lisa Stebel, and Matthew Stebel. Gladys is also survived by seventeen great- grandchildren as well- Jennifer Meier, Donald, David, and our precious newborn Daniel Mac Leod, Lily Joy Minden, Jacob and Brandon Schaefer, James, Justin and baby Jacobson, Amanda Roseberry, Clara and Madeline Kolaczkowski, Justin, Luke, and Shelby De Paulitte and Diane Stebel. Gladys was a proud graduate of St. Elizabeth Nursing School and the University of Dayton. It gave her great joy that her daughter-in-law, Marie, was also a graduate of St. Elizabeths and that two of her granddaughters are nurses. She also took pleasure in having 17 U.D. graduates in her extended family. She taught at Our Lady of Good Hope School and was a pioneer in mainstreaming special needs students at Walter Shade School in West Carrollton. Her granddaughter continues her work with special needs students at Chaminade-Julienne High School. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Maria Joseph Chapel. Her family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service in the side chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. We, the family, would like to thank moms Maria Joseph family (especially those on Emma 4) for the excellent care and attention they gave in her final years.
